As you can see from the logo to the left of the blog we have just been selected for a Wedding Wire Bride's Choice Award due to all of the fabulous reviews that our amazing brides have left for us. We are so lucky to work with such amazing couples and are honored to win this year!
Thank you to everyone who has left us a review on Wedding Wire and keep them coming!

...with that, I guess we need to keep the wedding blog posts coming so everyone can see our work. I thought maternity leave would give me "extra" time to blog. Who was I kidding!?

Southern Vintage

I am going a little out of order but wanted to get these great ideas and pics out!

Susan came to me as a friend wanting help with her wedding. Of course I would be there for her! When she started telling me her visions for a vintage southern wedding I got so excited. Wild flowers, antique vases, lace overlays, quilts and more all started running through my head.

Susan and Jared got married at a private venue in Lieper's Fork. Married under a tree with lanterns and an antique chandelier, the moment was perfect!!! Guests were seated on bales of hay covered with mix matched quilts. Capri blue, deep purple, ivory and green were brought in with the bouquets of wild flowers. When Susan walked down the aisle you could see the excitement from all the guests and Jared.

The cocktail hour was in the barn. The team at Down South Delights treated guests to southern favorites like ham and biscuits and spinach dip. YUM!

The reception was held under the stars...and string lights! Long tables lined the garden with ivory lace overlays and burlap runners. The buffet dinner was served on mix matched china. The look was perfect!

The band, Southern Hauler, had the guests on their feet all night! Guests were offered flip flops to keep their feet rested. As a special surprise to guests, Tin Can Treats came with their vintage trailer offering up sweet treats from the past.

All the details came together and Susan and Jared had the wedding of their dreams while sticking to their budget. It was the perfect day!

What a crazy year 2011 has been!!! New (PERFECT) baby, 18 weddings, and a birthday party for a NFL Star's son! I know we have not been so great with blogging about all the big happenings. I want to make things right so I am going to attempt to play catch up over the next few weeks. To wet your appetite, here are a few pics from our amazing wedding season.

Slowing Down With Baby

Sorry for not staying on top of the posts. Not only has this been a busy year for Details by Margaret but also the Tolbert Family. We are expecting Jackson Thomas Tolbert into our lives this November and couldn't be more excited! With that, priorities have changed and it is time to focus more on family. I am not giving up on the wedding planning business. In fact, this year has been our best year yet! We are simply going to slow down in 2012 and only accept select referrals so I can spend more time with my new baby boy.

We LOTS of weddings, parties, and ideas to share with you from this year. I promise to get caught up over the next couple of months and keep you in the loop when Jackson arrives. Thanks again for all of your support and helping us grow into who we are today as Details by Margaret!

One past event I would love to share is our Reveal Party! Ryan and I wanted to share the special moment of finding out the gender of our baby with friends and family. The theme was "What's it Gonna BEE?!?"

We had our ultrasound technician called our good friend Rebecca Schreher of Wedding Cakes by Rebecca. Rebecca was the first to person to find what we were having. For the party she made an AMAZING cake. When we cut in we found the color blue which meant BOY!

We decorated things to go along with the Bee theme. Everything was yellow, black and bumble bee! My husband, Ryan, put his smoking skills to work and smoked wings and pulled pork. Friends and Family were all there.

Each person was asked to pin on a pink ribbon if they thought it was a girl and blue ribbon for boy. We couldn't believe the amazing turnout out we had. Those who couldn't make it watched the big moment through a live video stream.

Blast from the Past Wedding

I know. It has been too long since our last post. We have lots to catch up on so stay tuned... Now, let's head back to March!

Megan and Ed Moody were married on March 11, 2011 at the beautiful Scarritt Bennett Wightman Chapel. Not only was the couple beautiful, they knew how to have a good time! I first realized what a good day this was going to be when the groom and groomsmen made a run to SATCO for some tacos moments before the ceremony. No stress for them!

As the couple left the church members from the TSU Choir broke out into the song "Oh Happy Day!" Guests were in awe!

There was another wedding in the smaller chapel! She was so cool to take a pic with Ed and Megan.

The reception was around the corner in the Phoenix Room at the Boundry Restaurant. Looking for a location with amazing food and great staff?!?! This is the place to book! The guests were serenaded by the vocal stylings of the band Rubiks Groove, a local 80's cover band. When they mentioned "getting into costume" I thought Megan was going to fall out! What a great surprise when they showed up in costumes from different 80's movies!

This couple was always smiling and having a blast! This is one marriage that will lead to lots of laugher and fun. Good luck Mr. and Mrs. Moody!

The Train Has Left The Station

The beginning of Mary and John’s adventure began with a wedding at the Memphis Central Train Station. Family and friends gathered to make their day special! Amtrak wasn’t the only train in the station this evening. Mary’s cathedral length train was the talk of the night!

Mary is part of the Details family....literally! She is my cousin! When she announced she was getting married I jumped at the chance to help out. This wedding couldn't have been complete without the hard work of my mother (the person I learned everything from!) and the mother of the bride! They made all the bouquets and helped with set up and decor. I wish I had them for every wedding!

Guests were in ‘awww’ as Mary came down the aisle with Gary Beard Chorale singing “The Bridal March.”

The colors were white and apple red. We used apples in the table design to bring in the rich color.

The groom’s family could not attend the wedding so a laptop was set up in the seat reserved for the Mother of Groom and the parents Skyped so they didn’t have to miss the big moment. How cool!?!

After the ceremony guests partied and had a ball as the couple danced the night away! Before leaving in their limo, guests cheered for the couple by blowing train whistles. The perfect ending to such a special night!

Thank you Mary and John for letting us help with your special day. We had so much fun and wish you luck!

Wedding Wonderland

You have not met the sweetest, most down-to-earth southern bride until you have met Sherry! Sherry and Dave’s big day on December 4th was a complete reflection for each other. Since Margaret and her hubby left that day to go to Barcelona (I know, right?), I enlisted the help of my amazing sister, Crystal to help me. Seriously I think she missed her calling in event planning!!

Their ceremony was at Scarritt Bennett’s Wightman Chapel and that in itself is BEAUTIFUL. The chapel was decorated with two large Christmas trees and gorgeous flower arrangement done by Caprice at Enchanted Florist. They had an organist and probably the most amazing soloist out there. Lemmie is a family friend of Sherry’s and let me just say, sitting in that amazing chapel as he sang “You Lift Me Up”, literally brought tears to my eyes. Probably one of the greatest moments of my “wedding” experience.

The reception was held just around the corner at the University Club. Details was in charge of coordinating & decorating. For centerpieces, the bride wanted to incorporate Christmas decorations, so we used red and silver glitter balls, fresh flowers, & votive candles. Music and Photography provided by the amazing duo McCoy Made. And my favorite, the cake was provided by Cakes by Rebecca :) There were special personal touches like the favors of homemade caramels made by one of the bride’s friends from her hometown. When the bride and groom entered the reception guests rang their jingle bells to welcome the newlyweds. Instead of a guestbook, the guests signed ornament balls and hung on a tree. The couple took the tree home and used it for their first Christmas as a married couple! Perfect or what?

One special moment about this wedding was when the groom SURPRISED the bride with special musical guest, Doug Stone, to sing their favorite song so they could have their first dance. My sister and I were both so star struck! What a perfect way to start your new life together.

Saved by the Wedding Bells

Heather found out Details by Margaret was hiring on a mutual friend’s facebook page. (Thanks Joe and Rhonda Hendricks, Joe Hendricks Photography!) After chatting with Heather over a cup of coffee and hearing about all the things that went wrong with her own wedding day, I knew she would be great for the team because she would never let a bride feel the way she did on her wedding day. Stressed. Frustrated. Rushed. Heather is willing to do whatever it takes to keep our couples happy and I am so glad to have her on the team. She will be the one to SAVE THE DAY!

Event Planner

What made you want to get involved with event planning? “I've always loved event planning! I really wanted to get involved with event planning since so many things went wrong with our wedding reception...that was when I was wishing we would have invested in a wedding planner! Instead we were dealing with everything that went wrong and that was taking away time from our friends, family, and fun! “

Share your favorite event planning story. “Planning 650 AM WSM's 80th Anniversary bash at the radio tower in Brentwood! I was responsible for booking over 20 artists to do on-site interviews the day of the party as well as coordinate media and local political figures to attend. I had to do all that in just 2 weeks and it went off without a hitch! The best thing was I had an Opry member come up to me to ask if I was responsible for inviting all the artists and I said "yes!” He told me "you did a fantastic job with this!” That was all I needed to know! All the stress of getting everything together in a few short weeks and all the hours spent on the phone totally paid off! I will never forget that day because so many Opry legends were there and it was great getting to meet them! It will be a day forever ingrained in my heart! Music and event planning really are what makes me who I am!”

Do you have any secret tips making an event perfect? “Go above and beyond what is expected!”

Grooms cake or Bridal Cake? “Hands down Bridal Cake...sorry guys!”

Do you have any secret tips making an event perfect? "Let the planners take care of all the details, stress, and anything you may need for that day. They are your personal assistants."

Tonight I am going to see one of our new Aisle Runners in the stage version of that hilarious Adam Sandler movie, "The Wedding Singer." Stacie Riggs is a singer/actress/wedding planner extraordinaire! We are so very excited to have her on our team.

Meet Stacie Riggs.

Event Planner

What made you want to get involved with event planning? "I love all the little details. I love seeing how all the separate planned components come together to form one great big picture."

Share your favorite event planning story? "Helping to plan my sister's wedding was the best. She was a very simple bride so figuring out ways to add that extra little sparkle while still keeping it all 'her' was a fun challenge. I also hand made all the favors and floral arrangements for her bridal shower. It was my first time doing both, so it was rewarding when everything thought that the arrangements had been bought."

Do you have any secret tips making an event perfect? "Write things down and make lists. You always want to make sure your bases are covered and the best way to do that and not miss something is to make yourself checklists. Also, make sure you delegate tasks out to family and friends that you trust. Don't think that you can do this all yourself, asking for help is okay and it will definitely make for a smoother day and a calmer you."

Grooms cake or Bridal Cake? "I love the bridal cake. For most brides, its the most amazing and beautiful cake she will have in her entire life. You only have One bridal cake. Whether it be stately or whimsical, it is definitely a focal center point and talking point for the reception. However, if your wish and budget allows for a grooms cake, the sky can really be the limit when choosing a fun and crazy design. Its a nice way to showcase a love of the groom in a day that is typically centered around choices the bride has made."

Who is your event planning idol? "I love David Tutera. I just think everything he does is so amazing. Now he usually works with high budgets, but I love taking those looks and ideas and figuring out how to do them in a more inexpensive DIY way."

Meet Natosha Benning.

Graphic Designer and Event Planner

Natosha was one of our brides last year. She did such an amazing job on her own wedding we knew right away we wanted her on our team! She has a background in graphic design and is a pro when it comes to DIY projects. We asked Natosha about her deep dark secrets and here is what we got....

What made you want to get involved with event planning? "I fell in love with planning events while planning my own wedding. I began spending a lot of time helping friends who were also getting married plan their special day by offering advice, ideas and vendor references. I love finding bargains, organizing and meeting new people."

Do you have any secret tips making an event perfect? "I'm not sure it's a secret, but I always try to keep in mind that there is no such thing as perfect. Knowing how to deal with less-than-perfect situations and problem solve in the moment is what gives the illusion of perfection to clients and guests."

Grooms cake or Bridal Cake? "Bridal cake! I love classic wedding cake and always look forward to that aspect of a wedding reception."

Who is your event planning idol? "Preston Bailey"

Elegance on a budget

Elegant and classy on a budget describe Molly and Jay's wedding on January 15, 2011. We were able to help Molly and Jay stick to their budget and transform the reception venue, The Foundary, into a beautiful space, while sticking to their number. Molly and Jay surprised their guests with a coffee bar and 2 barista's to create delicious coffee drinks.

Their colors where navy and deep red. To get a deeper navy blue, we spray-painted the hydrangeas and they turned out great. (this was a little trick we learned from Joan at Geny's Wholesale Flowers) Here are some pictures of the bouquets and centerpieces.

Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler

When Amanda asked if I would help with her New Orleans wedding, I jumped at the chance to do a destination wedding! Amanda and Ryan, both from Louisiana, went home to say "I do!" Planning the wedding from out of state should have been hard but with the support of family and friends it all came together nicely.

The party started with balcony rooms at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. You should have seen the banner hanging from Amanda's room announcing the nuptials! The ceremony was in Jackson Square. This public park in front of the St. Louis Cathedral set the scene for a beautiful NOLA wedding. The colors were egg plant, ivory, and silver. Amanda used peacock feathers as accents in color and design. The reception was at the Federal Ballroom. This space was transformed with silver satin linens, rich purple flowers, and spot lights on the columns.

When first meeting with Amanda she said, "this is a New Orleans Wedding. We have to have good food, good music and good booze!" All that came together for the perfect party! From the photo booth to the big band, guests were having a ball!

I know you would rather see pics than read what I have to say about this amazing wedding. This truly was an experience I will never forget! Thank you Amanda for including me in your special day.

Natosha and Stephen tied the knot on one of the most popular wedding dates of 2010... 10/10/10. We actually met Natosha at a bridal show in Mt. Juliet where she won a door prize for customized bottles of wine (courtesy of 'Details') for her wedding reception. Natosha wasn't planning to have alcohol at the reception, so Margaret worked with her to come up with something else.

In that process, we got to know Natosha and her blog, Big Spoon - Little Spoon. Natosha had several 'DIY' projects that brought the perfect personalized touch to her wedding. Natosha had a vintage wedding. All her special details had the guests turning heads to see what beautiful thing would be next. From her veil to the flower vases everything poured of elegance! The guests loved the meal prepared by Down South Delights and had fun with the outdoor photo booth and candy bar.

We loved Natosha's 'DIY' spirit and asked her to be part of the "Details" team. We love helping brides on a budget and what better way than to introduce some DIY ideas and have someone as creative as Natosha show us how to do it!!! Welcome to the Team!

Welcome to the Team Natosha!

Bling! Bang! Boom!

Kelly blogging here! Time to catch up. Shea and Mike were destined to be married on the water. They live and own Calico Jack’s Marina on Old Hickory Lake. So their venue, Rock Castle, was the perfect place for this outdoorsy and adventurous couple! The ceremony decor was inspired by Molly and Jason's wedding from the Bachelor. Tall cylinder vases lined the aisles with water and floating hot pink gerber daisies! The pink kissing balls added another level of color!

From the mashed potato bar to the bride’s bling bling shoes, everything was perfect. They had a late afternoon ceremony and a reception lakeside with a seated dinner underneath a huge white tent complete with a chandelier. The night ended dramatically with fireworks (even though this was a historical site and we really weren’t allowed to shoot fireworks... guess who took one for the team on that?!?)

"What? No fireworks?! Ooops!"

My favorite part was when Mike, the groom, interrupted the ceremony to let everyone know how much he was IN LOVE with Shea! It was so sweet and definitely made me misty eyed! Mike didn’t have to tell everyone that day that he was in love with Shea; you can see it every time he looks at her. Guests were entertained with an outdoor photo booth and the incredible vocal stylings of Mr.

This was the 2nd wedding that weekend and Details was in charge of the coordinating, decorating, and the flowers. So with Margaret and Jeanie working on the other, I was the lead for Shea and Mike. I enjoyed so much working with this fun couple and at this beautiful venue! And I hope they enjoyed their honeymoon in Miami.

Divine Damask

Lacey and Jacob said their vows on October 23, 2010. Our first meeting with them revealed a fun, funky couple looking to have a damask print themed wedding. They gave us free reign on designing the decorations and bouquets which was really fun. Margaret found these great damask print hat boxes and we used them to create different centerpieces. We also incorporated feathers, beads, and lots of candles.

The ceremony was at the beautiful Whightman Chapel at Scarritt Bennett! The colors of the bridesmaids dresses really added to the space. The groom's brother sang a solo that had guests in "awww." Each bridesmaid had a different kind of flower in her bouquet. Lacey's bouquet was a mix of all the flowers!

Lacey and Jacob's guests enjoyed great food and music and danced the night away at the Cannery Ballroom. This venue is great and can be customized to fit any kind of event.

Lazy Blogger

I have been reading wedding blogs all morning and loving all the cute little stories and great pics from brides and other vendors. I love reading about the adventures others are going through. I love how they hook you in and keep you coming back for more. Blogging is something however, I am NOT good at. I will read them all day long but taking a minute to do a post of my own... not so good.

I know you want to see more pics and hear more about the exciting things we have going on at Details by Margaret. We have several weddings to catch up on and I have lots of tips to share with you. May Your Days Be "Marry".

We are WAY behind on the wedding blogging but it is Christmas Eve and I wanted to speak to all the newlyweds this year. This is your first Christmas as a married couple and you want it to be perfect and stress free (just like your wedding was if you booked Details by Margaret!) Will you be at home or traveling to visit family? Are you cooking or just enjoying what is made for you? The number one tip I have is to make it your own! Start your own holiday traditions and enjoy being with the one you love.

My husband and I have been married for 4 years and this is the first Christmas since we were newlyweds to be home in Nashville. We put up the tree and decor. Felt a little like Christmas.... Ryan put speakers all over the house and started playing Christmas music. Getting deeper into the Christmas Spirit.... I have been baking and planning my Christmas dinner menu for a week. What is that a warm feeling?!.... We made bags of food, warmth, and toiletries for the homeless. We will pass these bags out later today. Seeing a small on someone else's face will definitely get me closer to that Christmas feeling!... Tonight we will go to church with my mother. Here we will sing carols and listen to story of Christ's birth. This is when I will truly feel the Christmas Spirit and be in the mood to celebrate.

What puts you in the mood for Christmas? What are your traditions? Will you start something new now that you are newly married? No matter what makes you feel like Christmas remember why you are celebrating and kiss the one you love.

A Thankful Production

When I was a little girl I would always put on a Thanksgiving play for my family. I would make my cousins be the pilgrims and I would be the Indian chief. We would make costumes out of paper sacks and construction paper. I would write the scripts, direct the play, and take the leading role (of course!) We would end the "big show" by having everyone in the family share what they were thankful for.... ya know audience participation was key. (Especially, when are starting to lose them. If you ask my mom, she would tell you that these performances would go on for HOURS! Sure mom, whatever!) Sometimes I would even cut out feathers for everyone to write their special thanks on before sharing.

These memories of entertaining my family are what make me reflect on why I became a wedding planner in the first place. I love to entertain. I love watching people come together and share in special moments. I love making memories.

I wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving! You don't have to put on a play or cut out Indian feathers, but take a moment to create your own special memories and share what you are thankful for.

Romantic Comedy

When I think of this couple I think of a Romantic Comedy. Wendy and Ramey met while serving in the Army and since that day, Ramey has vowed to make Wendy laugh. When this couple is together, you can see how much they love each other and just want to have fun! They called Details by Margaret to help make their wedding day special and stick to the budget. Both Wendy AND Ramey were very involved in the planning process. Ramey wins the "Groom of the Year" award! He never missed a meeting, tasting, or venue tour. They were a blast to work with!

Wendy had so many great ideas for her wedding. She found ways to make it "her" day and hand made special touches. The couple had a small intimate wedding in the herb garden at Cheekwood. The reception was in the ballroom at The Standard in downtown Nashville. Black, red, and ivory were her colors. The richness of the colors made everything so romantic.

The bride hand made her invitations, place cards, card box, programs and even favors!

Favors! Wine and labels made by the couple and their family.

Tables were named after their dogs and favorite sports teams.

Details by Margaret arranged all the flowers for the ceremony and reception. We used deep red roses, callas, and white hydrangeas. (Callas do not come naturally in a deep red color so we learned how to paint them to match Wendy's colors! Thanks for the tip Geny's Wholesale Flowers!)

The reception was a a blast! Wendy and Ramey had several surprises up their sleeves...or in Wendy's case, up her dress! For the garter toss Ramey pulled out a rubber chicken, ball and chain, spider webs, and many more fun stuff from under Wendy's dress! When it came time to feed each other cake, Wendy and Ramey turned to smash the cake into the Best Man and Maid of Honor's face!

In lieu of a Money Dance, Wendy and Ramey did what they called a "Money Scramble." They had 1 song to run around and collect money from their guests. ALL of the money was donated to a special organization that helped military families who lost soldiers at war. What a thoughtful couple!!!

Last year I got a phone call from a good friend, actually my old college roommate, saying her baby sister was getting married. Of course I was ecstatic! She said Elizabeth was interested in talking to me about planning her wedding. I, of course, agreed and got the first meeting set up pronto!

Over a year later, Elizabeth and Michael are happily married.

During the planning process, we had a few last minute changes with venues but it all worked beautifully in the end.

Love Found on the Other Side of the World

Levester met his blushing bride, Yukari, while serving for the Marines in Japan. They were married in Japan but wanted to have a ceremony for close family and friends when they came back to the US. Levester contacted Details by Margaret to do the job. The entire event was planned by email with the couple in the Japan and us here in Nashville. They had faith and we delivered a wedding on a budget!

Venue: The Standard Restaurant

Billy and his crew at The Standard were amazing! We got rained out from having the ceremony in the courtyard so Billy helped to pull together plan B quickly. The ceremony was in the back ballroom of The Standard and the reception in one of the main dining rooms.

The room and food were both amazing. Levester and Yukari had 30 guests and were able to keep the food and venue at $1500.

Planning For The Planner

Julie Anne Walter is an event coordinator for AOII but contacted Details by Margaret to help with her & her fiance, Clay's, wedding. So, needless to say this wedding was a breeze for us! She had most everything planned & organized but wanted us to be there the day of so we could keep everyone relaxed and relieve stress off the couple.(Really it was Clay that wanted us because he knew come day of, they would want the help!) Since it was a mid August wedding (and in Tennessee that means 100 degree temps with humidity), they decided to have a morning ceremony and a night time reception. Julie Anne & Clay were a creative couple and had great taste in music. In lieu of a guest book they signed record sleeves from their favorite albums and they left the ceremony site to Vampire Weekend!

Emphasis on the PARTY

When Carly and Ryan Cross came to me for help with their wedding celebration I was excited! They had a small ceremony and reception for close family and friends but wanted to throw a HUGE bash to celebrate their marriage with all of their friends.

They had a budget of $3000 and 100 friends looking for a good time. We didn't go over one dime! Here is how we made it happen...

Venue: Marathon Village a really great warehouse space right outside of downtown Nashville for only $800! (Pro: Amazing view of the Nashville Skyline Con: 3rd floor event space and no elevator) This is a very flexible event space. You can bring in your own food and beverage. They have tables and chairs that can be rented for a low cost as well.
Invites: Since Carly and Ryan were already married, they used one of their wedding pics to make a Kodak card online to send out to guests with the event details!

DJ: Jacob Spaulding has been a good friend of mine since the grade school years. He is now a local DJ and took care of this couple for a great price!!! Let me know if you are interested in getting a quote for your event!

Photographer: Details by Ryan aka my husband has an interest in photography and offered to shoot this party for fun! You can thank him for the pics you see in the blog.

Food: Details by Margaret took care of the food and beverage. The party started at 8:00 so the goal was not dinner but snacks. Our new team member, Faye, covered the food! We served buffalo and bbq wings, veggie platter, cheese fruit platters, and a great cupcake tower from Publix. The next most important details were the kegs and "party punch"....secret recipe... you will have to book us for an event to taste!!!

Decor: Details by Margaret kept the decor simple. We brought in the gerbera daisies that were used as a theme with the actual wedding. We kept it simple and cool! We hung white lanterns and lights. The party was set!

Bonus Details: Beer Pong was a fun activity for the guests and easy to set up on our own. Also, we had dry erase boards spread out across the room. Guests were encouraged to write a message to the bride and groom and Photographer Ryan went around and took their pics. Now Carly and Ryan have a photographic guest book!!! Speaking of pictures we wanted guests who could not attend the wedding to see pictures. So one wall had a slideshow from the actual wedding day so the guests could see the moment.

It was a great event and fun was had by all. Thanks Carly and Ryan for coming to Details by Margaret!

Shelley and Alex McCorkle tied the knot on July 31st. They had a beautiful pink and green wedding. We enjoy each wedding and getting the opportunity to work with great new vendors.

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Details planning BABY SHOWERS!

You know that I love weddings and parties. Well, my third love is for babies! When I found out that two of my closest friends were pregnant, I thought, “Baby Shower Time!” What I did not expect was for the baby showers to be in the middle of wedding season….EEEEEK! But we are professionals and here is a little snapshot of what I did.
Christa and Skylor’s MTSU Tailgate Shower
Christa and Skylor are the ULTIMATE Middle Tennessee State University football fans. We knew that even though they were having a girl, that this would be the perfect theme for their couples shower. Invitations were made by our friend Paige. She used stamps and cut outs to design the perfect invite!

For décor we pulled out all our normal tailgate gear! Pompoms, megaphones, tents, and camping chairs were spread both inside and out.

The menu featured all of our favorite tailgate foods! Yes, we even had a keg of beer for Daddy to be and the non preggo guests!

Even though this was a couple’s shower, we decided that games were a must! We had a baby relay race. The guests were split into 2 teams. The first team to complete the following challenges won a prize. (bottles filled with gummy bears)

Round 1: Feed Baby- Must drink 1 ounce from a bottle
Round 2: Burp Baby- Someone on the team must burp
Round 3: Change Diaper- Someone must put a diaper on another person (towel and safety pins)
Round 4: Read to Baby- Books off of the couple’s registry were used for this
Round 5: Feed Baby- Feed someone on the team an entire jar of baby food
Round 6: Sort Laundry- match baby socks
Round 7: Change diaper- take the diaper off the other person and put it on someone new
Round 8: Sing Baby to Sleep- entire team must sing “Twinkle, Twinkle”

DONE! All the items used were cleaned and given to the Mommy and Daddy.

This was a great shower! Everyone had a blast! To go with the sports theme we had a baby betting pool going. Each person picked and date and time that the baby would be born. Claire Allison Morgan was born Sept. 2, 2010 at 11:21pm. She is so precious! The winner of the pool was Casey Reese, our next Mommy to Be!

Chris and Casey told us that their baby boy was going to have an airplane room so we decided to play off of that. We knew this couple loved sweets so we included a candy buffet (so popular at weddings) as a favor for all of the guests.

We had two traditional baby shower games. We played memory with items off the registry and we had guests guess how big around mommy and daddy’s was. Both were fun and gave us a giggle!

Patrick Henry Reese was born the following Thursday after the shower. We was a few weeks early and is the tiniest little guys! Mom and Baby are both home and enjoying the new airplane room!

Congrats to both families! We had a blast and can’t wait to watch these little ones grow. Who knows, maybe one of them will become the next “Aisle Runner!”

My grandmother Polly's birthday was August 2nd and she turned the big 8-0! She is pretty important to us. She gives the best hugs & makes the BEST breakfast:) After losing her husband (and my granddad) of 59 years to cancer just a few short months ago, my family knew that we wanted to make this day special for her. And who other should be in charge than me?! With help from my wonderful sister & aunts, we pulled off a BEAUTIFUL surprise!

Bridal Show Bliss

We do not typically go to bridal shows but we love the idea behind the Elegance Bridal Gala in Mt. Juliet, TN! It is a small exclusive bridal show. Brides don't feel overwhelmed by the amount of vendors there and each booth has a "hands on" experience. The attire is little black dress and brides have a blast getting dressed up to have a GNO!

Last year was the first year for the gala. We featured a candy bar at our booth and we had a fun game where brides could win prizes like a mini-veil (always a hit!), discounts for planning services, and Details by Margaret cups. Jeanie and I got the chance to get to know some of the brides and give them tips for their wedding day! It was at the Elegance Bridal Gala that we met our 10/10/10 bride, Natosha Haskins. Game: Brides had to lift a plate to see what prize they won!

We are excited to participate in the show again this year! Instead of an entrance fee, the gala is taking donations for Brides Against Breast Cancer. I think that is such a wonderful idea! If rain on your wedding day really means good luck, April and Joey McAllister have been blessed with MANY years of wedding bliss!

April and Joey met while in school at MTSU in Murfreesboro. Their friendship turned into a beautiful relationship. Joey surprised April when he proposed on a hot air balloon with friends and family on the ground watching and listening in from a walkie-talkie!

They chose a June wedding outdoors at the Governor’s Club in Brentwood, TN. Details by Margaret was excited to help coordinate the day and keep the couple on budget. We helped to coordinate with the vendors and set up the decorations. Remember those tissue paper pom-poms we made? Those were for April and Joey’s wedding!

Flowers in the Garden

Megan and Patrick were married last weekend at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens next to the Reflection Pool. The colors were red, white and platinum. The bride wore a T-length dress with bright red heels. When she showed Details by Margaret what she wanted for flowers we knew we could do it...but had no idea just how many flowers it was going take!

Meet the NEW Aisle Runner!

As more of you local brides want Details by Margaret to help coordinate your special day, we needed to add a new member to our “dream team.” Welcome Kelly Jennette!

Kelly found us on Facebook and shared her love for event planning. I met with Kelly at the Starbucks in Green Hills. Right away, I knew she was “the one!” Seriously, she loves event planning just about as much as Jeanie and I do. Her enthusiasm just beamed right out of her smile! Kelly wanted more ~~stress~~ creativity in her life. She has worked other weddings and loves kids’ parties as well. She is great with DIY projects and has some goodies to share with us. Also, just learned that she is a licensed wedding officiant! How cool?! We are so excited to have Kelly on our team!

Last weekend Kelly helped out with the Shelton/McAllister Wedding at the Governor’s Club (pics and post to come soon!) She was always a step ahead of me making sure the event went like clock work...

Let's Hear it for the Wedding Planner!

When April told me she wanted green and pink pom-poms for her June wedding, I knew just what to do thanks to Martha Stewart! Thanks to my mom as well who taught me how to make tissue paper flowers when I was a kid.

Here are your step by step instructions for this great DIY décor. Pom-poms are a fun way to add color to an event. We will be hanging our poms along with lanterns for April’s wedding at the Governor’s Club Mansion in Brentwood TN. You can hang them from the ceiling, shepherds hooks or just set them on the table.

What you need.

(8) 20x30 inch sheets of issue paper (I got mine from Confetti.com)

1. Stack eight 20-by-30-inch sheets of tissue. Make 1 1/2-inchwide accordion folds, creasing with each fold.

2. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.

3. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist.

4. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

5. Use fishing wire for hanging.

Bouquet of Questions

Spring is here and it puts me in the mood to talk about FLOWERS! Last Sunday Andrea and her parents had a meeting with Caprice at Enchanted Florist in Nashville. Caprice had lots of great pics for Andrea to look at and guided her to exactly what she wanted WHILE sticking to her budget. That is my kind of florist! Here are some tips on what you can to do to plan for a florist for your wedding.

Six months before your wedding is a good time to start your search for a florist. Book your florist approximately 4 months before your wedding date. You need to have your reception and ceremony sites picked out before you can hire a florist because you'll need to know how many arrangements you'll need.. You'll also need to know what color your bridesmaids' dresses are.

What to bring with you to the consultation with the florist.
• Pictures of flowers and arrangements that you like (magazine clippings or websites)
Google your favorite color and look through the Google Images.
Ex. Results for “Green and Pink Wedding Bouquet”

• Picture of your wedding gown - swatches of material from your bridesmaids gowns - if available, a picture of your reception room

• Bring quotes you've gotten from other florists.

• Bring a list of all the flowers and arrangements you need and who they are for, so that the florist can label corsages, boutonnieres and bouquets, with names or titles. Example: on a bouquet a stapled piece of paper reads "maid of honor". This way everyone gets the right flowers.

When you visit each florist, look at pictures of their previous work and look around their shop.

• Do you like the arrangements that you see in the shop's displays?

• Do the flowers in the pictures look fresh?

• Are the pictures dated or are they following the current trends?

• Is the designer willing to work with you or are they telling you that your idea won't work?

• Make sure you speak to the florist that will do your arrangements.

• Do you feel comfortable with your florist?

• Is your florist paying attention to you while you're talking and does he/she seem interested?

Questions to Ask.

• When viewing photos of past work, ask if the flowers where arranged by the same person that is doing your arrangements.

• After giving your florist your ideas, ask for their opinion or ideas. You don't have to take their advice but at least take the time to listen. You never know, you might like their ideas better then your own.

• Is there a delivery charge?

• Is there a setup fee?

• Do they have rental supplies?

• Can you change your order if you have another idea? What's the cut off date for new ideas? (2 weeks is the average.)

• What times will the flowers be delivered to each location? This question can be asked 1 month before your wedding.

• Will the florist transport ceremony decorations to the reception location? Is there a fee?

• Can they make a sample of your bouquet and centerpiece? (Some florists will, some won't. If they do, they will most likely charge extra.)

• Are the flowers you've chosen in season? What flowers are in season for your date?

• Is the florist familiar with your reception and ceremony locations?

• 1 month before your wedding date, call the florist and ask them if they can get the type and color of flower you wanted?

Trading Diamonds for Diapers

Throwing or attending a baby shower? A Diaper Cake makes the perfect gift! All the components of the cake are items for Mommy and Baby. The best surprise for Mommy is in the middle of the cake. I like to add Mommy’s favorite bottle of wine or champagne as the base. Shhhh! Let her find it when she starts using the diapers.

I made one yesterday for a Rock Star themed baby room. Here are our step by step instructions on how to make your own baby cake. Scroll to the bottom for the simple instructions!

Supplies:
(2) 16″ disposable cardboard platter
Bottle of the Mom-To-Be’s favorite wine or champagne
70 diapers (try to find some that match your theme or colors)
Rubber bands
Glue gun
Decorative Ribbon
Johnson and Johnson Take Along Pack (travel size of baby products)
Decorative Baby Items (off the Mommy’s registry if possible)

Step 1:
Place the bottle of wine in the center of the cardboard platters. Wrap bottle with 2-3 diapers using a rubber band.

Step 2:
Roll diaper in with design on the inside. Wrap rubber band to keep secure. Do this until you have about 60 diapers rolled.

Step 3:
Encircle the bottle with the rolled up diapers, fitting as many as possible around the bottle. Once you have finished the bottom layer, secure ribbon around the diapers to hold in place.

Step 4:
Continue with steps one and three to make the last 2 layers with each layer being smaller than the one below it.

Step 5:
Decorate your cake! Have fun with this part. Include items that fit the baby’s room or theme of the shower. Use glue or wire to attach the items. Be careful not to glue the items to the diapers but to the ribbon instead. You want Mommy to be able to use everything on the cake!

Spring Cleaning

3 Years of Event Planning = a TON of Stuff!!! Yesterday Jeanie, my husband Ryan, and I all took on the daunting task of organizing all of the event planning supplies we have collected over the past few years. I had no clue that we had accumulated so much ~~STUFF~~ goodies! Going through all the boxes brought back great memories of past weddings and events. We took time to box up items in Rubbermaid tubs and labeled them carefully. We took inventory of each item to help us be better organized for future events. Ryan even built shelves to store all the tubs in the crawl space under our house. This will make pulling rental items much easier in the future!
This was hard work, but definitely paid off when we saw the organized storage space. Same feeling we get when we see a wedding come together after all of our meticulous planning. Check out the photos to see how our day went and what neat treasures we found.

The Great Venue Hunt

Andrea and Doug told me they wanted a classic, simple, southern wedding. Right away I thought …MANSION. There are several great mansions and Bed & Breakfasts across middle Tennessee. The hardest part was narrowing it down to a few and then one perfect location. I knew that Andrea wanted a place where she could have the ceremony and reception all in one location. She is excited for the idea of an outdoor wedding but wanted to have a rain plan in place. She has a budget of $3000 for venue rental and would like that budget to include tables and chairs for 75- 100 people. Here is where we explored.

Belmont Mansion is located on the Belmont Campus. This mansion has been restored and has original furniture and art that make it an attraction to tourists and guests. Faux vs. Real

A friend/co-worker of mine got married last weekend in Colorado......only a little jealous that they were in the beautiful mountains. She had 2 ceremonies, one on Friday night and another on Saturday night. (Joining religions...)

Knowing that I plan weddings, my friend has come to me several times over the last 6 months for advice, answers, suggestions, and ideas for her winter themed, Colorado wedding. We discussed centerpieces, colors, dresses, food, save the dates,………. and flowers.

Flowers were the hardest topic we discussed. She liked lilies and roses but after looking at thousands of pictures of bouquets, she still had not found what she was looking for in a bridal bouquet. So I invited my friend and her bridesmaids to my house for an ‘arts and crafts’ breakfast one Saturday morning. I went to Hobby Lobby and Michael’s and picked up some of my friend’s favorite flowers along with ribbon, floral tape, pins, glitter glue, etc. (we used fake flowers because they are less expensive to experiment on) After all the girls arrived, I asked each of them to select some flowers and start playing with the supplies to spruce up the flowers to be used for a bouquet. Some used the glitter to add some sparkle and others used colors to paint onto the flowers to bring in the wedding colors.

From the arts and crafts activity, my friend finally found “The Bouquet” she had been looking for all along. Now, at the beginning I said she was having 2 ceremonies. She decided to use a fake bouquet for the Friday night ceremony and a real flower bouquet for Saturday. Using the ideas from our activity, I created a bouquet with fake flowers. I was impressed with how real faux flowers can look. My friend absolutely loved the faux bouquet and it only cost about $25 to create.

So although real flowers are gorgeous and smell wonderful, brides on a budget (or who are allergic) can have fantastic looking Faux Flower Bouquets, too. And the best part, no one will even notice unless you tell them!

Butterfly Recap...

So only a few weeks overdue for a recap of my twin brother’s wedding in Florida. (the Butterfly Wishes post)

The wedding was beautiful. The weather cooperated for a sweet little ceremony outside in a gazebo with palm trees surrounding it…. A photographer’s dream! One of the cutest things was my brother’s dog Chevy as the ring bearer. Chevy is a little wiener dog that had a tux and top hat for his strut down the aisle. The reception followed in a ballet studio with a connecting café style patio, equipped with bistro tables and chairs for those to enjoy the cool Florida night.

Being the great sister I am, I offered to make the centerpieces for the reception and help with the coordination of the night. As for any special event, there are always things that come up at the last second that need taken care of, NOW. A good event planner has a backup plan for just about anything you can throw at her. (hint for brides-to-be: hire a wedding planner… I promise it will be well worth the money spent to not have to worry about all the details of the night.)

Working with a tight budget, family members usually get involved with trying to cut costs by offering to help with this or that. It creates more stress for the family when they have to worry about those details. As event planners, we strongly encourage our brides to utilize the vendors available. Don’t have your mom worrying about making food… Hire a caterer. They have the equipment and staff to make your dinner flawless. So, leave it to the professionals and let Mom enjoy the night. My brother took my advice and hired a caterer.

There are a couple of exceptions… if your aunt Judy is a florist and wants to make your bouquets or centerpieces, by all means, meet with her to show her what you want. You have a friend that makes wedding cakes. Great! See if she wants to help. Just try to keep your to-do lists for your immediate family to a minimum so they can enjoy your wedding.

Framing Up Your Photographer

Picking a photographer for your wedding should not only be about the pictures they take, but the connection you have with your photographer. You want to choose someone that makes you feel comfortable and knows how to bring out the best in you and your bride/groom. Once the day has passed, memories and photos are all your will have. Make sure they are something you want to refer back to over and over again!

Questions to ask when interviewing a photographer...

1. Ask to samples of their work. Do you like the "style" of their photos? Colors? Lighting?

2. Are you the wedding photographer who will actually take our pictures? If not, can we meet the person who will be? (Sometimes photographers work together and the person you interview is not the one who will be there on wedding day!)

3. How many hours are included with your packages?

4. Is there an overtime fee?

5. Do we get to have all the pictures on a CD or DVD to share?

6. How many other events will you also photograph that weekend?

7. What type of equipment will you be using? Will the lighting be intrusive?

8. How long will it take to get my proofs?

9. Can I look at a complete wedding album the you has shot?

10. Can I give you a list of shots that I want?

While you are talking, you will get a feel for what they are like. A good photographer will ask questions about YOU!

To Hire a Planner or Not to Hire a Planner? That is the Question!

So many people think that you can only have a wedding planner if you’re having a $50,000+ wedding. This is SO not true. Just about anyone can have a wedding planner! There are many planners out there (like us!) who will help brides on many different budget levels. From $3000 to $30,000, wedding planners save you much more than money….they save you time and energy!

They help you stick to your budget. Don’t get me wrong, a wedding planner can’t get you “discounts”, but often he or she will have connections with various vendors. These connections can possibly save you money. Some planners have various decor items that they own. If they don’t have everything, they can always rent them, and do the price shopping to get you a cheaper price than if you were renting them yourself. A planner can help you to create a budget, and throughout the planning of your wedding, he or she will listen to your budget priorities, and help you stick to the budget. If you talk about wanting something for your wedding that’s costly, a good planner will tell you that it won’t work with your budget. A wedding planner can offer up great do it yourself ideas in place of typical “wedding purchases”, and sometimes will even be willing to help you with them, or do them for you.

Do you like the “planning” part of the wedding? Vendors already booked? Having a coordinator can be beneficial for more than just coming up with ideas. Planners have different packages, from planning every detail of your wedding, to only executing the details on the day of. You can even have a planner provide you with recommendations of vendors, and then you contact those recommended vendors yourself. It makes your search much easier. The benefit of having a planner for the day of is you and your guests can relax and enjoy the day. Wedding planners know how the “flow” of the day should work and how to cover all the small details.

(Running a rehearsal can be stressful....no need for the bride to feel the stress!)

So, when having the “to hire a planner or not to hire the planner” debate, think about how important this day is to you. Do you really want to be checking your watch all night making sure things are on schedule? Relax and give us a call!

Butterfly Wishes...

Margaret introduced me a few weeks ago and I have been meaning to post up something but haven't been able to sit down to do so until tonight. My name is Jeanie and I help plan weddings and other events with Margaret. We have been working together since October 2007. We both work full time and do the event planning on the side because we love it!

On to butterflies... my brother who lives in Florida is getting married on 2/20/10. I am creating the centerpieces for the reception. My future sister-in-law loves butterflies and wanted them incorporated as much as possible. Her colors are tiffany blue and marine (navy) blue.

The reception is being held in a ballet studio and has strict rules on what they allow as far as decoration. No open flame (so, NO candles) and no water (no flowers in vases with water). So Margaret and I came up with an idea to use these great lighted branches, found at http://www.bellaaeris.com/bellaaeris/products.htm

For the "mock" centerpiece, I quickly cut out some cardboard butterflies. For the real centerpieces, I wanted to use some fake/silk butterflies in the 2 blues. I looked all over (Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, Michael's, and Walmart) but could not find exactly what I was looking for. So back to the craft stores to the scrapbook aisle to find a butterfly paper punch and some colored paper.
I loved the negative of the paper punch, so I am going to scatter these around on the tables. Or find something great to do with them. Can't let them go to waste!

I used fishing line to hang the butterflies from the branches. Use a straight pin to make your hole for the fishing line. Tie a knot on the bottom side so the butterfly doesn't slide off.

I will post up some pictures of the real centerpieces after the wedding. For now I have to run... and assemble about 50 more butterflies!

I know, we specialize in weddings, BUT Details by Margaret loves any reason for entertaining! So, are you ready for the big game? If you are one of the lucky ones who has a big screen TV like me, I am sure all your friends have volunteered your house for the Super Bowl. Am I right?!? Well, no need to fear. Details is here to give tips on how to have an awesome Super Bowl party without breaking the bank!

#1 Invite your guests (if they haven't already invited themslves!) Evite.com is a great (FREE) way to email out cute invites letting your guests know the details. When inviting guests, consider how much seating you have near the TV. This is one game where everyone will want to watch and you want your guests comfortable.

#2 Plan your menu. Potluck is a great way to keep the budget down while still having amazing food. Everyone has a favorite "football dish." Ask guests to bring their beverage of choice as well as a dish to share with the others. To keep from having repeats of the same item, make a wish list of what you are looking to have served and have guests reply on evite.com with what they are bringing.

#3 Presentation. I am all about creative decor and serving pieces! This is where you can really stand out! You already have a theme so the rest is easy. Party City currently has Super Bowl gear on sale!! I got Saints and Colts plates with football napkins. This way my guests can eat off of a plate with the team they are cheering for. Not all of your guests will bring a serving platter for their dish. Be prepared! Target has cute football serving pieces in thier dollar bins! I have this platter. You can get a couple to use for hot or cold snacks.

Know somone who has played or currently plays football? Maybe a kid who plays pee-wee football! If so, ask if you can borrow a helmet! Using props for serving pieces or decor is always a plus. I am going to try and find a helmet to use as a serving piece. I will line the inside of the helmet with a linen cloth. (If using a used helmet for serving food, first clean out the helmet and spray with a disinfectant.) I going to set the helmet on its side and have popcorn overflowing out of the helmet onto the table.

Plastic cups are totally fine for a party like this. Set out Sharpies for guests to write their name or design on a cup so they can keep up with their drink. To make it even more fun, get some Colts and Saints stickers for guests to use when decorating their cups.

#4 Are we having fun yet?!?! Sure your main entertainment will be the game and commercials, but to spice things up even more make bet or drinking game out of the night! Now, I am going to share my super secret party drink recipe for these games.

Finally, have fun! Relax and enjoy the game and your guests. At the end of the night when people offer to help clean up.... let them! Give each person a small job or task. The mess will be gone and no one will be put out. If you have left overs give "doggie bags" to guests as they leave.

Cedarvine Manor is CLOSED! Details coordinated 2 weddings at Cedarvine Manor in Lebanon, TN in 2008. Cedarvine was one of my favorite venues! It was when I was looking for a location for a 2010 bride that I found out their website was down and phone disconnected. Bummer! I reached out to some of my favorite vendors and no one had any news on what happened to them.
Last weekend, at the Nashville Lifestyles Bridal Show, I chatted with Ashley of http://www.ashleysbrideguide.com/. She got word that several brides had been displaced with Cedarvine closing and they needed help. One bride reached out to me earlier this week. Her date was set for 10/10/10. She now has no venue for her special day.

Walk Not Run

When it comes to weddings and events, I RUN. I run down hallways and aisles. I run around tables and under arches. I run from one vendor to another. I run after flower girls and grooms. To make an event a success, I run. When it came to blogging.... I walked.

I have been planning weddings for 3 years now. I learn new things everyday and have lots of great stories to share. Friends and fellow vendors have been ~~nagging~~ telling me to start blogging for years. Well, here I am!

The biggest task today was selecting a name for my new blog. Much to my surprise, my husband Ryan came up with the name The Aisle Runner. Not bad! He said, "Well, that's what you do. Right?!?" So, this blog will be about how my partner, Jeanie, and I run down aisles making brides' wedding dreams come true. I can't promise a post every week, but we will try hard to keep you coming back to read about our adventures.
